Is It Good To See a Chiropractor Regularly?

How often should you see a chiropractor is a common question we get in our clinic. And our answer is usually the same. Chiropractic, like any other health care treatments, needs to be personalized to each individual’s needs.

Everybody is different. We have different fitness levels, problems, work demands or stress degrees. And most importantly, we have different medical histories. That’s why, when it comes to how often you should go to the chiropractor, there can never be a one-size-fits all answer.

Depending on your general lifestyle, you might benefit from bi-weekly chiropractic sessions. Or maybe once a month is all you need. But, if you’re interested in maintaining proper health and wellness, there are certain general guidelines which we’ve seen working best for our patients.

To help you get an idea about why it’s good to see your chiropractor regularly, and how often your visits should be, let’s start by looking at a few things.

Why You Should Visit a Chiropractor In The First Place

You can visit your Chiropractors for multiple reasons. Chiropractic adjustments for neck, joint, back or any other kind of physical pain being among the most common ones people come to see us.

But did you know that chiropractic can help you with much more than finding relief from pain?

In our Los Gatos chiropractic office we look at your body as a whole. We don’t just want to treat your symptoms. What we do is try and identify the reasons those symptoms have appeared in the first place. Our main belief is that only by taking care of the root cause we can prevent its recurrence.

We also believe in educating all our patients on healthy habits they can implement at home and in their everyday lives. By doing this, you can extend the benefits of chiropractic between your regular visits.

One of the most important pieces of information you can receive from your doctor are the self management techniques you can do at home. These can empower you to take care of yourself without only relying on treatments at the clinic.

How Often Should You See A Chiropractor?

As you’ve seen earlier, chiropractic care is not a one-size-fits all approach. Our specialists will customize each chiropractic care plan specific for your needs. They can prepare your treatment plan and determine how often you should see a chiropractor. But only after performing a whole body assessment of your state of health.

For those wondering whether it is necessary to see a chiropractor 3 times a week, we can say that, yes, sometimes it is. Patients recovering from an injury, or suffering from an acute onset of severe pain, might need a few treatments in concurrent weeks to get back on track.

But if you are experiencing only minor pains and aches, one visit per week or every ten days might be enough to help you regain mobility and strength.

But how often should you go to the chiropractor for maintenance?

When it comes to maintenance of health and prevention of chronic diseases, chiropractic is one of the most used forms of conservative therapies. And one of the most beneficial!

Even without any symptoms or pain, regular visits to your chiropractor can help you prevent the occurrence and recurrence of many conditions and injuries.

In our clinic, patients that simply want to keep their symptoms at bay usually have a maintenance appointment every 3 to 4 weeks. Whilst others can go up to three months without having any issues. Keep in mind that these categories of patients don’t suffer from any symptoms, but wish to remain mobile and prevent injuries.

The most important thing is to listen to your body and see how it responds to chiropractic. After your first few visits, you can then decide with your doctor the frequency of your wellness care visits.

Can You Go to the Chiropractor Too Much?

Many of those wondering how often you should see a chiropractor are also interested in knowing if there’s such a thing as “too much” when it comes to chiropractic.

While it isn’t possible to overdue chiropractic treatment, three times in a week is the general norm for treating acute conditions. Still, a great deal depends on why you are getting chiropractic care in the first place. After a major accident, or if you are experiencing a great deal of pain, you can even get treatment daily for ten days in a row. And for some type of conditions, this is always the recommendation

But a reputable practitioner will not recommend this type of frequent treatment for longer periods of time unless there was a clear clinical rationale.

Lastly, no matter the symptoms, or the frequency of your visits, it’s important to feel that your condition has improved.

If you are not feeling better after a course of treatment, it’s time to consider revisiting your treatment plan, and doctor.
